Pasadena: Downs Park offers two-day boating safety course

Just because it's August doesn't mean it's too late to get ready for boating season.
Downs Memorial Park, 8311 John Downs Loop, will offer a boating safety course from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and Aug. 16 in the Chesapeake Room, which is located on the lower level of the park information center.

Anyone born on or after July 1, 1972, who would like to operate a registered or documented pleasure vessel on Maryland waters must posses a certificate of Boating Safety Education.

Advanced registration is required and must be handled in person at the park office. A nonrefundable $25 course fee includes the book, certification card, and instructional services. Participates must attend both classes to receive certification.

Jacobsville welcome

Jacobsville Elementary School, 3801 Mountain Road will have a new student orientation at 10 a.m. on Aug. 15 in the school's multi-purpose room.

New students and their families are invited to a meet-and-greet session with the administrators followed by a tour of the school.

Becoming a Catholic

Our Lady of the Chesapeake Catholic Church, 8325 Ventnor Road, will welcome anyone interested in becoming a member of the Catholic Church to an information night at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will provide a relaxed, informal opportunity to share thoughts, questions and aspirations with others.

Interested individuals will receive an overview of the process of joining the Church as well as information about how the Christian faith is lived and celebrated in the Roman Catholic tradition.

Registration is not required but is appreciated.

Legion bingo

The American Legion, Post 277, located at 7376 Carbide Road, invites everyone to its Sunday bingos starting at 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Sunday of the month.

Various bingo packets are available for purchase. The fourth Sunday bingo includes a free meal.
