Hospice of the Chesapeake recently welcomed three new staff members to the organization: Amy Turner, fundraising specialist; Chris Wilson, community and corporate fundraising specialist; and Lori Phelan, public relations specialist.
Ms. Turner comes to the hospice with more than 10 years' experience in higher education development. She began her career in philanthropy at Princeton University's Office of Annual Giving before moving on to Rider University, where she was responsible for various aspects of the university's advancement efforts.
Ms. Wilson has more than 15 years' experience including managing and developing both networking and signature events. Most recently, she worked for the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce as vice president of programs and events.
Ms. Phelan joins the public relations staff after five years as staff writer for the Capital-Gazette Newspapers' community news department in Annapolis. She has 25 years' experience as a copywriter and graphic designer for several advertising agencies.
United Way of Central Maryland honored George Moran, founder of Moran Insurance, with the first Bernard Cook Meritorious Leadership Award for his volunteer work on behalf of its Community Partnership of Anne Arundel County. Mr. Moran has raised millions of dollars for local nonprofit health and human services both when he was chairman of the Anne Arundel County United Way Campaign in 2003 and during his years working on the organization's campaigns.
George Furtado of Glen Burnie was the recipient of the Manager's Choice Award from the Home Builders Institute during a presentation ceremony held at the Woodstock Job Corps Center in Baltimore County. Mr. Furtado received this recognition for "an outstanding job establishing work-based learning opportunities for his students" and for identifying career opportunities for his students.
The Providence Center recently announced that Marlene Prendergast-Jones will serve as the interim director of development for the organization. Among other responsibilities, she will assist the organization in developing a sustainable annual gift program.
