PASADENA: Peninsula churches offer 'Beachy keen' Bible schools

Several area churches will offer vacation Bible school programs, several with beach party themes, from Aug. 4 through 8.
"Beach Party Surfing through Scriptures" will be the theme at Jenkins Memorial Church, 133 Riviera Drive. Classes are from 6 to 8 p.m. for children in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.

It's a "Beach Party" theme, too, at Pasadena United Methodist Church, 61 Ritchie Highway from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration before Aug. 4 is $6 per child or $10 for two children in the same family and $8 per child thereafter.

Lake Shore Baptist Church, 4613 Mountain Road, invites children in kindergarten through fifth grade to its free program, "Outrigger Island - Living God's Unshakable Truth." The VBS will run from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Registrations are now being accepted, but walk-ins will be welcomed.

Get ready for a rainforest adventure at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 8615 Fort Smallwood Road. "A Tree Top Bible Blast" will run from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $15 for one child and $12 for each additional child in the same family. The registration fee includes a CD, T-shirt, daily snack and craft.

Community United Methodist Church, 8680 Fort Smallwood Road, will be "Surfin' through the Scriptures," beginning at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will start at 6 p.m. The classes are free. Freewill offerings will be accepted each night during dinner. A CD of the program music can be purchased for $3.50.

Pancake breakfast

Grab a stack of flapjacks at the Orchard Beach Improvement Association's pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 3.

There will be pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, coffee and juice, as well as a bake table.

The cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for children ages 4 and younger.

The breakfast will take place at the community center located at 1000 Hilltop Road.

Basket bingo

The Orchard Beach Volunteer Fire Department, 5749 Solley Road, will sponsor a basket bingo starting at 7 p.m. Friday. The doors will open at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door. All prizes will be Longaberger products.
