Glen Burnie West: Beef, oysters, shrimp at Ravens Nest event

Ravens Nest 10 will sponsor its annual bull, oyster and shrimp feast from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sept. 13 at La Fontaine Bleue, 7514 Ritchie Highway.
Tickets cost $40 if purchased before Sept. 1. Tickets purchased after Sept. 1 cost $45. Participants must be ages 21 or older.

The event will include wheels of chance, a Ravens apparel sale, a silent auction, raffles and music by a disc jockey.

The menu features oysters on the half shell, pit-roasted ham and beef, steamed shrimp, Maryland crab soup, Italian sausage with peppers, pulled pork barbecue, rotisserie chicken, hot dogs, green beans, whipped potatoes, coleslaw, sheet cake, sodas, draft beer and non-alcoholic beer. A cash bar will be available. Patrons are also welcome to take their own bottles.

Proceeds raised at the event will benefit charities supported by the Ravens Nest. So far in 2008, the club has donated $100 as well as household and personal hygiene items to the North County Emergency Outreach Network and $100 to Special Olympics.

Summer dance, etc.

Pascal Senior Center members can look forward to a dance along with a sundry of free services taking place next week at the center at 125 Dorsey Road.

Members are invited to a summer dance at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Admission is free. Music will be provided by a disc jockey.

A registered nurse will check glucose levels of diabetic patients and blood pressures of any member from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday and Friday.

Senior information specialist Wanda Swift will meet with seniors by appointment on Thursday to help identify their needs, locate services and complete applications for assistance.

The Pascal Book Club will meet at 10 a.m. Friday. Members will discuss the book "The Color of Courage" by Patricia Davids. New members are welcome. A list of books to be discussed at future meetings is posted at the center.

Weight loss seminar

The University of Maryland Center for Weight Management and Wellness will offer a free seminar on surgical weight loss from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Courtney Conference Center, on the lower level of the Tate Cancer Center, 305 Hospital Drive.

Dr. Mark Kligman will discuss surgical weight loss therapy, which is for patients ages of 18 to 60 who have a body mass index over 40 or who have a body mass index between 35 and 40 and obesity-related diseases such as diabetes, sleep apnea or heart disease.

Vacation Bible school

The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer will offer vacation Bible school classes from 9 a.m. to noon July 28 through Aug. 1 at the church,

7606 Quarterfield Road.

This year's theme is "Opening a World of Possibilities: Nicaragua." Participants will learn about the country of Nicaragua and the Lutheran Church's work there. The program will include games, crafts, music, snacks and other activities.

Registration will cost $5. As space is limited, early registration is encouraged.

Camp Kidgits finale

Local youth are invited to attend the final week of activities offered through Camp Kidgits at Marley Station mall, 7900 Ritchie Highway.

"Imaginary Safari" activities will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday in the center court. The YMCA will offer a free craft activity.

Free family movies will be shown at the Regal Cinema at 10 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Children are invited to exercise with a kick-boxing program at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gold's Gym.

A children's entertainer will perform at noon Friday in the center court.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for all activities. Annual membership for the Kidgits club costs $5, which includes a free T-shirt.

Youth dance

The Ferndale Volunteer Fire Company will sponsor its monthly youth dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the fire hall, 4 S. Broadview Blvd.

The dance is for children ages 14 and younger. Music will be provided by a disc jockey.

Parents must sign their children in and out of the dance. No child will be allowed to leave the hall unless their parent signs them out.

Admission is $5. Refreshments will be sold.

Golf tournament

St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church will host its 11th annual golf tournament fundraiser on Sept. 18 at the Compass Pointe Golf Course in Pasadena.

Registration and breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

The cost is $125 and includes green fees, carts, contests, prizes, lunch, breakfast and beer and soda on the course.

Tee sponsorships are available for $60. An awards ceremony will immediately follow the luncheon.

Local residents may rent the Ferndale Community Club, 15 N. Fifth Ave., for private parties, showers, wedding receptions and other special occasions.

Marley Milers

Beat the summer heat and exercise daily at Marley Station mall, 7900 Ritchie Highway. New walkers are welcome to join the Marley Milers indoor walking program for a safe, climate-controlled place to walk. Participants walk in the mall from 7:30 to 10 a.m. weekdays before the stores open.

Bingo

The Holy Trinity Knights of Columbus Council 3413 offers bingo games every Tuesday night at the Columbian Center, 335 N. Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.

The doors open at 5 p.m. for seating. Games begin at 7:15 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded, including two $1,000 jackpot games.

Refreshments will be sold from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.

The Lost in the 50s Custom Car Club hosts a cruise night from 6 to 10 p.m. every Saturday night in the parking lot at Marley Station mall, 7900 Ritchie Highway.

Antique and customized cars, truck and street rods from 1977 and older will be on display. There is room on the parking lot for up to 450 vehicles to be displayed.
