Boater under investigation

A Pasadena man was charged with boating under the influence of alcohol June 21, and Maryland Natural Resources Police believe he may have been involved in a hit-and-run boating accident earlier that day.

At about 4:45 a.m. officers stopped a boat for going over the 6-knot speed limit, on Stoney Creek near the Patapsco River. During the stop, they learned the boat's operator, Robert R. Harp, 48, had been drinking and police arrested him.

Mr. Harp was charged with operating a vessel while impaired and under the influence of alcohol and exceeding the posted speed limit.

During the investigation, police discovered damage on Mr. Harp's 29-foot motor boat that may have come from a hit-and-run boating accident that occurred earlier.

Officers noted damage on the front starboard side of the boat that was not seen on Friday evening when Mr. Harp was stopped by the same officer for speeding under the Fort Smallwood Road Bridge.

Police seized the boat as evidence, and continue to investigate.
