Glen Burnie East: Drive-in diner to raise money for Girl Scout trips

Messiah United Methodist Church's parking lot will become an old-fashioned drive-in diner, complete with roller skating car hops, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The menu will include sloppy joes, sloppy dogs, hot dogs, chips, soda and milkshakes.

The drive-in will be sponsored by Girl Scout Cadette Troop 1630 and Junior Troop 1336 to raise funds for spring, summer and fall camping trips.

The troops estimate that the cost of each camping adventure is about $60 per girl.

The church is located at 7401 Furnace Branch Road at the corner of Country Club Drive.

Cars, trucks, cycles

The Cruisers Youth Swim Team will host a car, truck and motorcycle show at the Country Club Estates Recreation Association property on Saturday.

Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to noon for those wishing to show their vehicles. All make and model year vehicles are welcome.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m.

In addition to checking out the vehicles, browsers can listen to music provided by a disc jockey and purchase Mothers' Day flowers and gifts, food and raffle tickets.

The CCERA is located at 1 Paul Marr Drive at the end of Country Club Drive.

Boy Scout news

The following members of Boy Scout Troop 474 advanced in rank at the troop's recent Court of Honor: Adam Long, Chris Allen, Danny Nicholson and Lenny Nunno.

The following Scouts received merit badges: Jason Greer, Chris Allen, Adam Long, Lenny Nunno, Charlie Santoro and Joshua Lynch.

Boys who will be entering grades 6 through 12 in the fall are eligible to join the troop. Adult volunteers are also needed.

The troop meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at Harundale Presbyterian Church, 1020 Eastway. The Scouts camp once a month and have been on several high adventure trips.

Anyone interested in becoming involved with the troop is welcome to attend a meeting.

Free family movie

Glen Lutheran Church will open its doors at 5:30 p.m. Friday for its free family movie night.

The film "Alvin and the Chipmunks" will start at 6 p.m.

Popcorn is also free; other snacks will be sold. Church sponsors suggest that those who attend take along pillows, blankets or any kind of comfortable seating.

Children must be accompanied by adults.

The church is located at 106 Carroll Road at Delaware Avenue in the Glen Gardens community.

A ladybug-themed Mothers' Day brunch for mothers and daughters of all ages will be held at Glen Lutheran Church from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets cost $5 for ladies ages 6 and older and are free for those ages 5 and younger. Tickets should be purchased in advance.

In addition to food, there will be games, crafts, door prizes and a humorous skit.

Yard sale vendors

Vendors are wanted for a yard sale that will be held at Messiah United Methodist Church, 7401 Furnace Branch Road, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 7. The rain date is June 14.

The rental fee is $10 for a space or $15 for a space and a table.

Anyone who doesn't want to rent a space but would like to get rid of some items in good condition can donate them to be sold at a church-sponsored table.

Also that day, the church will host a blood drive and the church's youth will hold a car wash and sell hamburgers and hot dogs.
