Severna Park's offense began and ended with Kyle Convissar.
The sophomore second baseman led off the first with a solo home run and belted a three-run shot in the fourth to power Severna Park to a 14-1 victory over South River yesterday.
"I got to hit two flat fastballs," Convissar said. "I guess that helps."
The win secures the Falcons (13-5, 11-4 county) a bye in the regional tournament and puts them in line for a shot at the county championship, providing they can beat Broadneck on Monday.
"Monday's a very important day," Severna Park coach Jim McCandless said.
The loss eliminates South River (13-6, 9-6) from contention for the county championship.
If Arundel (12-6, 12-3) and Old Mill (15-5, 12-3) both win Monday, they'll meet in the championship. If one of those teams loses, Northeast (14-4, 10-4) and Severna Park have a shot at reaching the title game.
Northeast plays North County tonight and Old Mill on Monday, and the Eagles must win both games to qualify for the championship, which will be played on Thursday at Joe Cannon Stadium.
Old Mill, Arundel and Severna Park have clinched first-round byes in the 4A East Region tournament, which begins Friday. Leonardtown must win one of its final two games to secure the fourth bye in the tournament. The top four teams will host their playoff openers.
Convissar was 3-for-3 with a double and two homers. He also scored four times from the leadoff spot for the Falcons, who held a 14-0 lead with two outs in the fifth inning.
Convissar jump-started the Falcons in the first by hitting the first pitch he saw from South River pitcher Mike Clark over the scoreboard in center field. Cory Jensen doubled off the left-field wall two pitches later, stole third and scored on Brent Jones' RBI groundout. Adam Senholzi's run-scoring single made it 3-0.
"I think we fed off the first swing of the bat," McCandless said. "That kind of triggered everything, and a lot of guys fell in line right after that."
Severna Park sent 11 hitters to the plate in a six-run second. Convissar followed Jason Basara's walk with a double down the left-field line and Jensen drove in a run with a groundout. Alex Ramsay doubled, and Clark hit Jones with one out to finish his day.
Clark lasted 1 1/3 innings and gave up four hits and six runs.
Senholzi welcomed Seahawks reliever J.K. White with an RBI double, and Erik Schneider hit the first pitch he saw over the left-field fence for a three-run homer and a 9-0 lead.

The Cavaliers scored in each of the first four innings to build a 10-1 lead to secure the victory. Hines, Woods and Adam Summerfelt doubled. Hines drove in four runs, and Summerfelt and Luke Caldwell each collected two RBIs.
