Linthicum: St. Philip's offers all-you-can-eat pancakes for mom's day

Anyone looking for a way to get the family out of the kitchen on Mother's Day while supporting a community group might consider an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet at St. Philip Neri Church, 6401 S. Orchard Road.
The Knights of Columbus Monsignor Ripple Council 5370 will host the breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 11. Proceeds will benefit the church.

On the menu will be pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage hash browns toast and fruit salad. Beverages will include coffee, milk and juice.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 12. Breakfast is free for diners ages 5 and younger. There will be tickets on sale after all Masses today and tomorrow .

In addition to the meal, there will be raffles, a cake wheel and a silent auction of sports memorabilia.

Preschool openings

Preparing to begin its 41st year of service to the community, St. John's Nursery School, 300 W. Maple Road, is accepting registrations for this fall.

The cooperative school says it still has a few openings in the program for 4-year-olds, which is offered daily from 12:15 to 2:45 p.m. To be eligible, the pupils must have been born between Sept. 2, 2003, and Sept. 1, 2004.

"The kids enjoy several field trips. They perform in a circus and have a wonderful graduation, complete with caps and gowns," registrar Lisa Marshall wrote in an e-mail.

As a cooperative nursery school, parents participate and help with the teaching.

Wine tasting

There will be a wine tasting and tour of the Historical Electronics Museum at 6 p.m. on Wednesday to benefit the museum's educational programs.

Museum director Michael Simons is scheduled to give a tour of the museum at 1745 W. Nursery Road, and a representative of the Maryland Wineries Association will participate in the tasting.

Tickets are $16 for members of the museum and $25 for non-members.

Quilting program

The Friendship Quilters of Linthicum will demonstrate how to prepare a quilt for long-arm quilting and ripple-free borders during a program open to the public at the Linthicum library, 400 Shipley Road.

The program gets under way at 10 a.m. on May 10.

In addition, the guild will have space available in the library for quilters to work on personal projects.
