Beverly Death and Pat Snader were recently presented three first place awards and $100 from the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland for their contributions to the restoration of Gray's Creek Bog and for taking part in the Arlington Echo Outdoor Classroom program.
The two are respectively the president and young gardeners chair of the Long Point Garden Club.
Paula Winkler, district II director of the garden club, presented the awards which honored projects created for the 2007 Central Atlantic Region's "Kids and Plants Naturally" project.
The garden club meets at 10:30 a.m. on the third Wednesday of the month at Long Point Hall at 1536 Long Point Road.

Lion's fruit sale
The East Anne Arundel Lions Club will offer ruby red grapefruit and temple oranges from Florida from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 29 at Community United Methodist Church, 8680 Fort Smallwood Road. The deadline to order is Saturday.
All orders will be delivered directly from Florida the morning of the sale and is available in full and half cases. There also will be quarter bags available for grapefruit and oranges. A few varieties of packaged nuts are still available for purchase.

Basket bingo
The VFW Post 2462, 1720 Bayside Beach Road, still has tickets available for its Longaberger basket bingo on March 29. The doors will open at 5 p.m. with bingo starting at 6 p.m.

Bus trip
Everyone is invited to join the Cornfield Creek Garden Club on a bus trip to the Marjorie Merriweather Post's Hillwood Estate Museum and Garden in Washington, D.C., from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 8.
Attendees can enjoy over 4000 azaleas bloom in profusion through April and May and hundreds of trees, shrubs and flowers.

Bull roast
The Chesapeake High School band boosters is selling tickets for its annual bull and oyster roast from 7 p.m. to midnight on April 5 at the Stoney Creek Democratic Club, 8123 Fort Smallwood Road.

The Magothy Chelsea Community Church, 265 Beach Ave., will host a bull and oyster roast from 1 to 5 p.m. on March 29.
