Ambrose Breen
Ambrose Augustus "Amby" Breen, 24, a two-year resident of San Diego who was formerly of Crownsville and enjoyed competing in sports, died suddenly Feb. 29 at his home.

Mr. Breen was born April, 15, 1983, in Crownsville, to Paul Breen of Arcata, Calif., and the late Janice Polyansky Breen. He lived in Annapolis, then moved to California, where he graduated in 1995 from Arcata High School and was on the wrestling team.

He served in the Coast Guard.

Mr. Breen worked at the Black Angus in San Diego.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church.

An avid video game player, he also enjoyed playing pool and table tennis.

Survivors include two brothers, Simon Breen of Japan and Timothy Breen of Norfolk, Neb.; two sisters, Julianna Breen of Houston, Texas, and Rose Breen of Arcata; and his grandmother, Angeline Polyansky of Crownsville.

A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. today at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church, 1070 Cecil Avenue in Millersville. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home.

Michael Connelly

Michael Joseph Connelly, 79, a resident of Severna Park since 1994 and a member of the Kennedy administration, died of cancer March 12 at his home.

Mr. Connelly was born March 29, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was raised in Illinois. He attended the University of Illinois, where he became editor of the Daily Illini newspaper.    

Mr. Connelly served for several years in the Air Force.

He worked for City News Service, United Press and the San Francisco Chronicle in California. He then moved to Texas, where he was selected to direct the Kennedy campaign in Texas. Following the 1960 election, the family moved to Washington, where Mr. Connelly held several positions in the Kennedy administration.

Following President Kennedy's assassination, he wrote for, edited and eventually published a number of magazines, eventually heading the Montgomery Ward publishing division and later working as editor of Consumers Digest.

He then worked for a New York law firm, before moving to Annapolis in 1986 where he wrote for The Washington Post, produced programming for A&E, and worked with the United States Agency for International Development to develop an independent press in the Republic of Moldova.

In his retirement, he worked as a substitute teacher for the county high schools and was a dedicated volunteer for Partners In Care. He especially enjoyed his Labrador retriever.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, JoAnne Sarazan Connelly.

Survivors include one son, Michael Connelly of Brunswick, Maine; one daughter, Michelle Dilks of Arlington, Va.; six grandchildren; and his partner of several years, Nancy Jane Sullivan.

A funeral Mass was offered Monday at Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church in Millersville. Interment is in the church cemetery.

Warren Darby

Warren E. Darby, 75, a 50-year resident of Pasadena and a retired Baltimore City Police officer, died of natural causes March 14 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mr. Darby was born March 13, 1933, in Baltimore, and was raised in Brooklyn Park.

He served in the Army from 1950 to 1953.

Mr. Darby belonged to the American Legion Post 277, the Fraternal Order of the Baltimore City Lodge and was a past master of Corinthian Lodge 93.

He enjoyed playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley E. Darby.

Survivors include three sons, Ray E. Darby of Collierville, Tenn., and Larry E. and Darrell E. Darby of Pasadena; one sister, Joan Broseker of Severna Park; and four grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.

Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Glen Haven Memorial Park.

Sarah Fowler

Sarah E. "Nellie" Fowler, 90, a 65-year resident of Pasadena and member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Roman Catholic Church, died of unknown causes March 14 at her home.

Mrs. Fowler was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Maryland, to the late Samuel and Mary Ellen Lamont.

A homemaker, she was also a member of the St. Jane Frances Senior Club and enjoyed crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis "Frank" Fowler.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis Fowler Sr. of Friendsville and Richard Fowler of Pasadena; four daughters, Nancy Disney and Delores Frommelt of Pasadena, Joan Laycock of Delaware and Francis Loudenslager of Palm Bay, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held yesterday at McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home. Interment is in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mark Funk Sr.

Mark A. Funk Sr., 38, a recent resident of Asheboro, N.C., and formerly of Anne Arundel County, died March 13 in at Randolph Hospital in Randolph County, N.C.

Mr. Funk was born Aug. 21, 1969, in Baltimore, to Carol J. Dalton of North Carolina and Donald E. Funk Sr.

He attended Andover High School in the 1980s.

Mr. Funk enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include one son, Mark "Buddy" Funk Jr. of Brooklyn Park; three daughters, Brittney and Rochelle Funk of Brooklyn Park and Leah Barber of Florida; two brothers, Donald E. Funk Jr. and Jim Minter of Maryland; and three sisters, Joyce Dalton of North Carolina, Jenny Minter of Linthicum and Bonnie Benesch of Maryland.

Funeral services were held Monday at New Beginnings Full Gospel Church in Shallotte, N.C. Interment is private. Arrangements are by Stallings Funeral Home.

Sally Hammond

Sally Matabel Hammond, 80, a 62-year resident of Pasadena and one of the peninsula's first woman small business owners, died of natural causes March 13 at her home.

Mrs. Hammond was born July 19, 1927, in Baltimore.

A home, land and small business owner, she built her own home alongside her husband. She also wrote and published an autobiography of her work and experiences.

Known for having a strong work ethic, courage and values, she was an advocate for blue collared citizens.

She was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Robert Hammond; and one son, Arthur Hammond.

Survivors include her daughter, Sally Taylor; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services. Interment is in Glen Haven Memorial Park.

Gloria Hube

Gloria Mae Hube, 80, a 46-year resident of Pasadena, formerly of Bel Air and a member of the Poplar Ridge and Pasadena senior clubs, died of pneumonia March 15 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center after a three-week illness.

Mrs. Hube was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Baltimore, to the late Frank and Annetta Gerhardt.

As a young woman, she was employed by Commercial Credit.

A homemaker, her interests included sewing, embroidery, birds, gardening and baking.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Gerhardt; and three sisters, Betty Farring, Mildred Walter and Lorraine Gerhardt.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Ernest Raymond Hube; three sons, Lawrence Hube of Glen Burnie and Wayne and Paul Hube of Pasadena; one daughter, Beverly Sprinkle of Pasadena; one sister, Miriam Mull of Ohio; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 8499 Virginia Ave., in Pasadena. Interment will be in Meadowridge Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home.

William Kaufmann Sr.

William N. "Mr. Willie" Kaufmann Sr., 90, an 18-year resident of Queenstown, formerly of Gambrills and the longtime owner of Kaufmann's Tavern, died of pneumonia March 13 at Easton Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Kaufmann was born April 4, 1917, in Pasadena to the late Henry and Katherine Kaufmann. He was a 1936 graduate of Arundel High School and was a member of the high school's hall of fame for baseball and soccer.

He served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 as a sergeant and a member of the famous Merrill's Marauders.

Mr. Kaufmann was a member of the Gambrills Athletic Club and the American Legion.

He enjoyed the Redskins and the Orioles as well as fishing and sports.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florentine Catherine Kaufmann, who died in 1988; and one brother, Henry Kaufmann.

Survivors include two sons, William N. Kaufmann Jr. of Milton, Del., and David A. Kaufmann of Queenstown; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his companion of 16 years, Gertrude Hoskins.

Funeral services were held yesterday at Hardesty Funeral Home. Interment is in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.

Sonia Koppleman

Sonia Harriett Koppleman, 63, a resident of Baltimore and a retired Ames store retail clerk, died suddenly March 15 at Harbor Hospital.

Mrs. Koppleman was born June 4, 1944, in Baltimore, to the late Elmer and Georgie Jenkins.

She worked for 20 years with Ames.

Mrs. Koppleman enjoyed reading and word find puzzles and especially enjoyed caring for and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Terry Ann Koppleman.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Robert Koppleman Sr.; two sons, Robert Koppleman Jr. of Brooklyn and Jeffrey Scot Koppleman of Westminster; one daughter, Lisa Wilder of Brooklyn; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Gonce Funeral Service, 4001 Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Charlotte Lopus

Charlotte Louisa Lopus, 98, a 20-year resident of Vienna, formerly of Glen Burnie and co-owner of Arundel Crane Services in Glen Burnie, died March 16 at her daughter's home.

Mrs. Lopus was born Jan. 29, 1910, in Pennsylvania, to the late Henry and Charlotte Brockman.

Besides owning the business with her husband, she also was a secretary for several years at the Census Bureau in Washington, D.C., and on Fort George G. Meade.

She was a member of the Ventnor Yacht Club and the Maryland Yacht Club as well as an active member of the Christian Science Church in Glen Burnie.

She enjoyed her family, ceramics, cows and reading. She especially enjoyed walking and, until recently, would walk an hour every day. She was known for her memory of songs, poems and the Bible and could recite long passages.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Lopus; one daughter, Joan Kay Sparrow; three brothers, Bill, Bob and Earnest Brockman; and three sisters, Mary Kolendar, Betty Henry and Dot Brock.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Johnson of Vienna; one sister, Martha Hulteen of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are private. Interment is in Glen Haven Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Zeller Funeral Home and Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home.

Lillian Mathias

Lillian A. Mathias, 73, a 15-year resident of Pasadena and a member and past-vice president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 2462 Ladies Auxiliary, died March 15 at her home.

Mrs. Mathias was born July 7, 1934, in Brooklyn, to the late Clifford L. and Ida Martin.

A homemaker, she enjoyed watching soap operas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mathias; and three brothers, Harry "Boots," George and Clifford Martin.

Survivors include two sons, Michael J. and Brian K. Mathias of Pasadena; one daughter, Brenda Boyles of Pasadena; two stepdaughters, Cathy Mathias of Ocean City and Susan Mathias of New Jersey; one sister, Catherine Hillary of Port Ritchie, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Michael Mattz

Michael A. Mattz, 51, a 10-year resident of Linthicum and a Vietnam War Army veteran, died of unknown causes March 14 at his home.

Mr. Mattz was born July 26, 1956, in California, to the late Milford D. and Daphna R. Mattz.

He was self-employed for 10 years as an auto mechanic and he enjoyed motorcycles and cars.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Bernadine L. Mattz; one son, Michael A. Mattz of Linthicum; and one sister, Kimberly Yosts of California.

Funeral services were held yesterday at McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home. Interment is in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Linda Mosberg

Linda B. Mosberg, 64, of Arnold and a Baltimore Washington Medical Center employee, died March 12 at her home.

Mrs. Mosberg was born Jan. 10, 1944, in Presque Isle, Maine, where she also was raised. She lived in Catonsville for 15 years, then in Arnold for the past 10 years.

She worked as an executive secretary for BWMC for the past six years.

Mrs. Mosberg enjoyed spending time with her grandson, going to the beach and antiquing.

She is survived by her husband, William H. Mosberg III; one son, William Mosberg IV of Arnold; one daughter, Stephanie A. Gruss of Arnold; six sisters, one brother; and one grandson.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Interment will be private.

Dolores Mullinix

Dolores E. Mullinix, 78, a 22-year resident of Woodstock, formerly of Glen Burnie, and a country music enthusiast, died of complications of Alzheimers' disease March 14 at Gilchrist Center after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Mullinix was born Dec. 17, 1929, in Baltimore, to the late Edward and Ella Grimes.

A homemaker, she also enjoyed spending time with her family, movies and watching television.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Joseph Grimes.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Alvin Mullinix; one son, John Winter of Glen Burnie; one daughter, Darlene Winter of Pasadena; one stepson, Jeffrey Mullinix of York, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Donna Gouldin of Woodbine; one sister, Margaret Krauss of Eastern Shore; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held yesterday at Kirkly-Ruddick Funeral Home. Interment is in Glen Haven Memorial Park.

Gene McCormick

Gene D. McCormick, 80, a 40-year resident of Severna Park, formerly of Pasadena, and retired Baltimore Gas and Electric employee, died March 3 at University of Maryland Shock Trauma from a fall at his home.

Mr. McCormick was born Oct. 15, 1927, in Covington, Va.

He served in the Navy and retired from BG&E after 40 years' employment.

His enjoyed being with people and reminiscing, as well as fishing and watching sports on television, especially golf. He was an avid Tiger Woods fan.

He was preceded in death by one son, Daryll J. McCormick.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Ocus Copper McCormick; four stepsons. Warren, Gene, Joel and Todd Ocus, all of Anne Arundel County; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were private. Interment is private. Arrangements are by Daugherty Family Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

Raymond Neighoff Sr.

Raymond Thomas Neighoff Sr., 86, a resident of Linthicum and self-employed carpenter, died of natural causes March 15 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.

Mr. Neighoff was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Catonsville.

He served in the Navy as a carpenter's mate during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Esther L. Truitt Neighoff, whom he married in 1948; two sons, Raymond "Tommy" and Dave Neighoff; one daughter, Gail Aaron; two sisters, Pauline Jackson and Evelyn Neighoff; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held yesterday at Loudon Park Funeral Home. Interment is in Loudon Park Cemetery.

Victor Perez-Sanchez

Retired Army Master Sergeant Victor Manuel Perez-Sanchez, 52, of Severn and a member of Club Puerto Rico of Maryland, died March 14 at Seasons Hospice in Randallstown.

Sgt. Perez-Sanchez was born March 22, 1955, in Puerto Rico, to Abraham Perez of Puerto Rico and the late Francisca Sanchez.

He enjoyed bowling and watching basketball games and ESPN.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Maritza Perez; two daughters, Yalisa Perez of Pasadena and Yaira Perez of Severn; two brothers; and one sister.

Family and friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Donaldson Funeral Home and Crematory, 1411 Annapolis Road in Odenton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Interment in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville will follow at 2:30 p.m.

Jane Peters

Jane Peters, 83, a resident of Falling Waters, W.Va., formerly of Glen Burnie, and a great-grandmother, died of cancer March 16 at her home.

Mrs. Peters was born, Oct. 13, 1924, in Key Rock, W.Va.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville V. Peters.

Survivors include two daughters, Deanna Inkrote of West Virginia and Martha "Marti" Brooks of Florida; three sisters, Wanda Miller, Bonnie Lamb and Betty Phillips; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home, 7250 Washington Blvd., in Elkridge.

Julia Pierre

Julia Renee "Ju-Ju" Truesdale Pierre, 25, a lifelong resident of Odenton and office manager and member at Living Waters Worship Center, died of noncontagious meningitis March 11 at Sentara Hospital in Williamsburg, Va., after a three-day illness.

Mrs. Pierre was born May 23, 1982, in Annapolis, to Phillip and Bonita Truesdale I of Odenton. She was a 2000 graduate from Arundel High School and went on to Southeastern University, where she became a resident assistant pursuing minister ordination.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, singing, making pottery, looking glamorous and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Yvesnais Pierre, whom she married in 2005; one brother, Phillip Truesdale II of Odenton; two sisters, Lena Truesdale of Glen Burnie and Gina Truesdale of Odenton; and her grandmother, Grace Truesdale of Pasadena.

Funeral services were held on Monday at the Living Waters Worship Center. Interment is in Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton. Arrangements were by Hardesty Funeral Home.

Edith Plummer

Edith Mae Plummer, 101, a resident of Baltimore, died March 16 at her home after a two-year illness.

Mrs. Plummer was born Sept. 7, 1906, in Templesville.

She enjoyed flowers and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Henry Plummer.

Survivors include one son, Robert Plummer of Baltimore; one daughter, Charlotte Reeves of Sykesville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Alleene Sherman

Alleene B. Sherman, 84, a 52-year resident of Glen Burnie and retired Anne Arundel County school teacher, died of unknown causes March 16 at her daughter's home.

Mrs. Sherman was born May 12, 1923, in North Carolina, to the late John and Iva Batchelor.

She retired in 1990 after teaching for 38 years.

Mrs. Sherman was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa teachers' sorority and the oldest member of her Knights of Columbus Ladies Guild.

Her interests were education and cooking for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Sherman.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy M. Newman of Glen Burnie; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home, 3204 Mountain Road in Pasadena.

Walter Truax Jr.

Walter A. Truax Jr., 78, a 44-year resident of Severna Park and the 1980 Greater Severna Park Community's "Man of the Year," died of respiratory failure March 14 at his home.

Mr. Truax was born July 14, 1929, in Utica, N.Y..

He served in the Air Force from 1948 to 1955 and during the Korean War was a cryptographer.

He was employed by United Air Lines at the former Friendship Airport, now BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, from 1957 until his retirement in 1988.

Mr. Truax was a member of the Olde Severna Park Improvement Association for 41 years and served on the board and as president for three years. He also belonged to the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Glen Burnie Jaycees and was an officer for many years in the Friendship Airport Managers' Club.

He enjoyed sponsoring midshipmen from the Naval Academy and became a mentor. He also enjoyed sailing, obtaining his Coast Guard captain's license and was the co-founder of the Annapolis Sailing Society.

Survivors include his wife, Abbie Truax, whom he married in 1951; one son, Walter "Buddy" Truax III of McKinney, Texas; three daughters, Mary Ellen Ruddick of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., Linda L. Truax of Severna Park and Ann Barry Vazquez of Gambrills; one brother, Charles Barry Truax of Ruxton; and two grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was offered yesterday at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. Arrangements were by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.

James Tyler

James E. Tyler Sr., 52, a 21-year resident of Lacey, Wash., and an Army veteran, died March 15 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Mr. Tyler was born Jan. 15, 1956, in Baltimore, to Bernice Tyler of Pasadena and the late Stanley E. Tyler.

He served in the Army from 1977 to 1994.

Mr. Tyler was employed by the Army as a communications specialist.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed electronics.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Michael A. Tyler.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Deborah Tyler; one son, James E. Tyler Jr. of Fort Dix, N.J.; one daughter, Datasha E. Tyler of Dyess, Texas; and three sisters, Theresa Gay of Prince George's County, Deborah Tyler of Glen Burnie and Barbara Tyler of Brooklyn Park.

Funeral services were held yesterday at Stallings Funeral Home. Interment is in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
