Saturday-Monday Roundup: Spalding lacrosse rolls past IND

Archbishop Spalding's girls lacrosse team won its second straight game over an IAAM B Conference foe, routing Institute of Notre Dame Monday, 20-5.
Junior midfielder Danielle Kirk led the Cavaliers with four goals and five assists and senior midfielder Katie Kirk scored six goals. Junior midfielder Stephanie Paskal added three goals and three assists.

The Cavaliers, who routed Chapelgate last week in their opener, shut out IND in the second half.

Junior goalie Cosette Larash finished with nine saves for Spalding.

The Cavaliers, under first-year head coach Moira Leavitt, open their IAAM A Conference schedule tomorrow at John Carroll.

Junior attacker Michelle Chmielewski paced IND (0-1) with a pair of goals.

SEVERN 14, HOLTON ARMS 5: Severn's Chelsea O'Neill and Josie Owen each scored three goals as Severn opened the season Monday with a rout over the Panthers.

Owen also managed two assists for Severn. Becca Steinberg was also active for the Admirals with two goals and two assists of her own.

BASEBALL

ST. MARY'S 9, BETH TFILOH 0: Dave Summerall picked up his first win of the season for the Saints as they beat up on the Warriors Monday.

Summerall went four innings, notching seven strikeouts and two walks, allowing just one hit.

Austin Pretz was the biggest contributor for St. Mary's at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and four RBI. Danny Uscwick was also 2-for=2 with a double and added a steal for the Saints.

SATURDAY BOYS LACROSSE

ST. MARY'S 15, EPISCOPAL 5: The Saints improved to 3-0 as they took it to Episcopal Day School of Dallas in the Patriot Cup, held in Irving, Texas.

Matt Bell led the way for St. Mary's with five goals. Matt Lamon led the game in assists with four to go along with three goals for the Saints, and teammate Peter Athens managed three more goals and two assists.

KEY SCHOOL 11, LAFEYETE (MO.) 9: Jake Maldonado netted a hat trick and Brendan Flannigan added two goals and three assists to lift Key to an 11-9 win over Lafeyette (Mo.).

Lafeyette took a 4-2 lead into halftime, but the Obezags (1-0) took control, scoring nine of the game's final 14 goals.
