Annapolis High School students are mourning one of their own who was shot to death late Sunday night.
Kwame Travon Johnson, 17, was shot and killed just after 11 p.m. in the Robinwood neighborhood.
Roslyn Smith, the junior class president at AHS, said she remembers Mr. Johnson as a playful guy who stayed out of trouble.
"He wasn't involved in all the neighborhood drama between Robinwood and Annapolis Gardens," she said, referring to the tensions between some residents of two city Housing Authority communities. "He tried to stay out of it because he has family in both areas."
Police say they have not determined a motive.
Mr. Johnson was found lying on the ground, suffering from gunshot wounds, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, police said.
Junior Shelby Heineke said officials held a moment of silence at the school on Monday.
"It was just kind of solemn. People were altogether pretty sad about it," she said.
Officials have offered some suggestions to curb the violence.
Officer Hal Dalton, a city Police Department spokesman, said there are plans to add more patrols to that area.
In addition to the four city killings, the body of a Robinwood man was found last month on the side of the road in Davidsonville. County police are working closely with Annapolis police on the slaying.
