  • Police ID officer involved in fatal shooting

    County police have identified the officer involved in the fatal shooting of a man suspected of assaulting and threatening a Baltimore County police officer and stealing his patrol car.

    Cpl. Eric Burns, a 19-year county police veteran assigned to the Northern District, has been placed on routine administrative leave following the Tuesday-morning incident.

    Three Baltimore County officers also involved in the shooting were also placed on leave pending an investigation.

  • TSA finds cattle prod in luggage at BWI

    A Delaware man has been cited with stashing a compact cattle prod in his carry-on luggage at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport.

    The Transportation Security Administration said checkpoint officers at BWI discovered the prod Tuesday in the carry-on luggage of a passenger bound for Albany, N.Y. TSA spokesman Kawika Riley said the passenger surrendered the weapon.

  • Hung jury in murder of Glen Burnie man

    CAMDEN, N.J., — After two days of deliberations, a jury announced Wednesday that it was deadlocked in the trial of a man charged with killing a Glen Burnie man in 2008.

    The jury began deliberations on Monday after testimony in the three-day trial of Harold Elliot in Superior Court in Camden ended last week, the Courrier Post in Camden reported.

    The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office contended Elliot shot Michael Unger, 35, who was his sister’s boyfriend and a guest at the Elliot home.

  • Inmate’s testimony key to trial in murder of guard

    Closing arguments wrapped up Wednesday in the county’s first murder case in a half-decade that could result in the death penalty.

    Lee Edward Stephens and Lamar C. Harris are charged with the July 25, 2006, killing of Cpl. David McGuinn at the now-defunct Maryland House of Correction in Jessup. Psychiatrists found Harris not competent to stand trial.

  • Anne Arundel officer involved in Baltimore City shooting

    An Anne Arundel County police officer is on administrative leave after he was involved in the shooting death of a man accused of threatening an officer, then stealing a Baltimore County police cruiser early Tuesday morning.

    The Anne Arundel officer is a 19-year-veteran who works at  the Northern District Station. Three Baltimore County officers also involved in the shooting are also on administrative leave.

  • Ritchie Highway ramp repair work resumes Monday

    The ramp from southbound Ritchie Highway to Route 100 west in Glen Burnie will be closed again next week for repairs.

    Starting Monday, construction crews will begin the second phase of a $1.5 million three-phase project to repair damage by Tropical Storm Lee last fall. The first phase was completed over the fall, with repair crews replacing 180 feet of pipe that collapsed due to flooding. The SHA reopened the ramp in mid-December.

  • Anne Arundel police corporal arrested for tipping off suspects

    An Anne Arundel County Police corporal was arrested earlier this week after it was discovered he'd tipped off a house of people suspected of having drugs where a search warrant was going to be executed.
