  • Families remember lost infants at Downs Park memorial

In the year and a half since her unborn son died in the womb, Jennifer Davis has been asked numerous times when she’s going to get “over it.”

So the Pasadena woman organized a gathering of about 50 people Saturday in Downs Park to memorialize lives lost during pregnancy or infancy.

  • Linthicum man's music spans generations

Forty years ago, Dave Walenga sold his drums and packed away his memories.

College and the draft ended his band’s four-year run, and he used the money from the sale to buy a wedding ring for his wife. “Best investment I ever made,” he said.

But he missed the band terribly. He kept a scrapbook filled with photographs and posters from gigs, such as when they opened for The Buckinghams or The Kingsmen of “Louie Louie” fame.

“Drumming was fun only when there were others to play with,” Walenga said.

  • And this baby makes three

Like the two other county couples who gave birth to babies on Interstate 97 and the Baltimore Beltway last week, Jim and a pregnant — and in labor — Denise Deal thought they’d have plenty of time to get to the hospital Sunday morning.

But like the other couples, the Deals didn’t make it to the comfort of the delivery room before their newborn decided to make her grand entrance.

  • Battle of the Bands marks lucky 13

Neither Anne Arundel County Battle of the Bands founder Nancy Almgren nor the longtime emcee Danny May have any superstitious qualms about the number 13.

Instead, they thank their lucky stars the event is celebrating its 13th year beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday at Maryland Hall in Annapolis.

“It feels great to still be able to provide this opportunity for these kids,” said Danny, 26, a former contestant who begins his 10th year as hosst.
