Date:
01/28/2012 - 8:00am

This year’s Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge will be held Jan. 28 at Sandy Point State Park, 1100 E. College Parkway in Annapolis. The family plunge will take place at 11 a.m., and afternoon plunges will be held at 1 and 3 p.m.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. Participants solicit at least $50 in pledges from friends and family members and will receive a commemorative event sweatshirt and official event photo.

The plunge fun also includes the Super Plunge, an event featuring a team of about 60 people who brave the bay every hour on the hour for 24 hours. There is also a Pee-Wee Plunge for children ages 8 and younger, a special dip for pint-sized plungers in a kiddie pool.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco will help lead the charge.

The PlungeFest includes a carnival FunFest tent, a Kids Zone, costume contest, spa treatments, a coffee center and an ice lodge and beer garden featuring live music.

This event is a fundraiser for Special Olympics Maryland.
